SPLIT 7"

TRACK LISTING:
Hammerlock - "Whiskey Rebel"
Rancid Vat - "Jobjumper"

REVIEWS:

Perhaps this is a split with a theme... an ode to The Whiskey Rebel perhaps? Okay, so he's in Rancid Vat (and I have read his column in Hit List), but obviously he has impressed Hammerlock enough to write a song about him and go on a long winded speech on how great the man is in their liner notes. Musically, punk with a strong rock and roll edge. On the flip is Rancid Vat, who seem to have been plugging away for years. This is the first time these ears have heard them. Solid stuff. Straightforward punk rock, with an early 80's feel and a great guitar sound. Yeah, I'd enjoy a full length from them for sure.

HAMMERLOCK: Travis (guitar/vocals), Liza (bass/vocals). Jamey (drums)

RANCID VAT: (l-r) Marla Vee (guitar), Thee Whiskey Rebel (bass), The Cosmic Commander (vocals), Perfect (drums), Jimmy Satan (guitar)

ABOUT THE BANDS:

20 years into their long and storied career, Rancid Vat is still a musical force to be reckoned with. From the verbal assault of the Cosmic Commander of Wrestling to the evil guitar tandem of Marla Vee and Jimmy Satan and the gutteral bass rumblings of thee Whiskey Rebel to the maniacal drumming of Eric Perfect, Rancid Vat's aural attack is an unrelenting dose of brutal rock and roll.

With one foot firmly planted in rock & roll and punk and the other deeply dug into classic country music and the lore of the great American West, Hammerlock are one of the hardest workin', hardest livin', hardest drinkin' and hardest rockin' trios to ever grow out of the generally bland, PC San Francisco music scene. Since 1995 they've been kicking ass (literally and metaphorically) all over their adopted hometown and all over the US.

Look for Hammerlock's third full length CD, Barefoot & Pregnant, out in May (on SCR).
