People occasionally ask us about submitting demos & when they do, here's what we tell them - we're not exactly looking for demos but we're not not looking for demos either. We do accept submissions but on the other hand, our release schedule for 2003 is already fairly mapped out (although not set in stone.)
Submission requirements are as follows:
#1 - Your band must rock.
#2 - YOU MUST SEND US SOME OF YOUR MUSIC! CD, tape, 8 track, we don't care but please do not write us a note and ask us if we are interested in putting out a record with your band and expect us to say yes or no based on the contents of said note. (I know this seems simple but we do get e-mail like that.) We don't care who you've played with or what zines have said about you; we put out records we like. In order to like your band, we must hear your band. It's that simple.
#3 - You must be patient. Between the label & the mag etc. we are normally pretty busy and sometimes, when we're not busy, we get lazy - plus we get a lot, make that A LOT, of mail and sometimes it takes us a while to sort through everything. But we will listen to everything that gets sent here eventually and if we like what we hear we will definitely get in touch with you.
Another strange phenomenon we've noticed recently is bands sending us "demos" that appear to already be completed releases. In our book, demos contain unreleased material. If you make up a little cover or something on your computer to send out with your stuff, that's cool but a whole professionally done package does not equal demo. In other words, if you're already at the point where you've recorded a whole album's worth of material, mixed it, run off a few hundred CDs, designed booklets, sent out promos for review in various publications & are selling them at shows, etc - you just put out a record on a label that you own, what the hell do you need us for?
With that said, materials for sumbmission can be sent to: PO Box 29247, Philadelphia, PA 19125 USA
